Quarter 3

 Quarter 3

This blog post is technically for the months of July to September, but as it turned out, I did absolutely zero hobby time in July and August. Summer is just not the time to be indoors painting and wargaming. On top of that, we did a lot of travelling this summer, making it even harder to find hobby time! So all of the painting you will see in this post was done in September. Now lets see what I did

Goal #1: Paint Models

I knew that the summer months would be a slower time, but I still had the goal of finishing with my Ghost Archipelago crew by the end of September. I am happy to report that I did end up finishing the rest of the crew, and I am really happy with how they turned out. I had a lot of fun painting these models. They are just a tiny bit bigger scale (~35mm) and that really makes a difference when it comes to painting details. The sculpts are also full of personality. The model I am using for my Storm Warden (the flying wizard lady), is an especially cool sculpt and I am thrilled with how it turned out.

In addition to these models for Ghost Archipelago, I also started painting the Stranger Things miniatures I had bought earlier in the year. I want to try the game, "Don't Look Back" in October, which means painting up these minis. I started with the monsters, and I had some help from my amazing wife and brother-in-law who each painted one of the demodogs (see if you can tell which is mine in each photo).

Goal #2: Play Games

I didn't play a single game in Quarter 3. This definitely puts me behind my goal. In the next few months I am hoping to play more and at least get close to meeting my playing goal of the year.

Goal #3: Don't Buy New Stuff

I failed at this goal as well! A friend was putting in an order at the 3d Print website and I decided to pull the trigger on buying a dozen or so historical Viking miniatures. This is my first venture into historical miniatures and I am doing it to play with my gaming friend in Saskatoon who is deep into the historical minis. Obviously, buying new miniatures does go against my goal, but I am excited to unlock a new genre of games to play - especially because I have a friend who wants to play.

Three-Quarter-Year Check-In

With only three months left in the year, lets see how I am doing on my goals:

Models Painted: 72/100

Games Played: 13/24

So after the summer slowdown, I am definitely behind on my goals. Painting wise, I should be able to catch up without too much trouble and get back on track. I am not sure if I will be able to play 11 games in the last three months though. That is almost 4 games per month. Likely the only way to meet that would be to play in a tournament or something! We will see what gaming opportunities present themselves to get me at least closer to my goal!
