2024 Wrap Up Post
So the year is over, and it is time to check in on the goals I had!
Goal #1: Paint Miniatures
Starting with my goal of painting, let's first take a look at the miniatures I painted in the final 3 months of 2024!
I started with painting more of the Stranger Things models.
Dustin, Mike, Lucas:
Hopper, Joyce:
I also painted some terrain for Don't Look Back, but this does not count towards my painting goals:
I then painted a Savage to use in my Ghost Archipelago crew:
I then painted some Sisters of Battle that I had sitting in my pile of shame for a while:
I painted some awesome retro sci-fi Galacteers for Stargrave:
I then painted up some fantasy creatures. These sculpts are super old and I have had these minis for years. I didn't spend a lot of time on them, but I still think they look ok. They will be good for almost any miniature agnostic fantasy game:
Next I painted up four alien bugs that I hadn't finished yet from earlier in the year. These are for the Startgrave Quarantine 37 Campaign, but they could be used in any Sci-Fi game:
Finally, I painted up the Vikings that I had bought. For the majority of these, I didn't paint them overly detailed. I still think they will look great on the tabletop! I did paint the berserker to a more detailed level, because his sculpt is super cool. I am excited to use these for the historical skirmish game, Ravenfeast:
In total, I painted 111 miniatures this year! This is above my goal of 100, and I am really happy with what I was able to accomplish. There were a lot of really fun models to paint, from a whole bunch of different vintages and manufactures. I also didn't have a big unified army project this year, like I did last year with my Imperial Guard. That meant that I was able to use a whole bunch of different colours and colour combinations on the models that I painted. I had a lot of fun with the various colour palettes that I used. Overall, it was a great year for painting, and I feel I made a lot of hobby progress!
Goal #2: Play Games
I played a bunch of games over the last three months of the year, but unfortunately I came up one game short of my yearly goal of 24 games. I actually had it scheduled, but I had to cancel last minute. Here are a bunch of photos of games that I played over the past three months:
Even if I didn't reach my goal of playing 24 games, I still was able to get a lot more games in this year than last! And I was able to use a whole bunch of painted miniatures, new and old. The following is a summary of the games I played this year. The majority of them were Stargrave and Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago. I am a big fan of that game system and I can definitely see myself playing a lot more of the 'Grave' games in the future. Gaslands was also a great addition, because it allowed me to play some games with friends that don't normally do miniature wargaming. I was also really happy to play some games of Warcry with my old gaming buddy. The one game of Warhammer 40K was also great because it let me use my Imperial Guard army from last year!
Goal #3: Don't Buy New Miniatures
I was able to avoid buying new miniatures in the last 3 months of the year! Overall, this year I bought 97 new miniatures, which you can see summarized below:
Comparing that solely to the miniatures I painted, it means that my pile of shame only decreased by 14 miniatures. But along with the miniatures that I bought, I also sold a bunch. In total I sold 44 miniatures this year. This means that my pile of shame decreased by a total of 58 miniatures, which is a big success in my opinion! I am also happy to say that for the most part, the miniatures that I bought, I also painted and used in games. Very few of the miniatures that I bought this year are just collecting dust as future projects.
And that's all I have to say for 2024! I will be making a new set of goals for 2025 and I look forward to continue my hobby journey into the new year!
