This is my first post of my hobby blog. I am writing this blog for myself, so I can put my goals into writing and track my progress.

I have realized that I have way too many unpainted and unused miniatures, and I would like to fix that.

There are three overall goals that I have for this year. Further down I will quantify these goals, but generally I want to:

  1. Paint the models I have
  2. Use my painted models in games
  3. Limit my purchase of new models

Starting with number 1,  as with most hobbyists, I have a pretty significant backlog of unpainted miniatures. I want to reduce that number. Last year I was able to finish painting my imperial guard force, as well as some cool retro-sci fi miniature for use in Stargrave.

For my first goal, I want to paint 100 miniatures this year. This will be a significant step towards reducing my backlog. This means that every month, I will be looking to paint around 8-9 miniatures (or about 2 miniatures per week). This seems very achievable. Especially if I get into painting units of troops, where I can do an assembly line and finish a squad of 5-10 models at once.

Moving on to number 2. I find great enjoyment in painting and collecting miniatures, but I find much more enjoyment if I am able to use my miniatures on the tabletop. Last year, I probably played around 12 games total in the entire year. These were mainly games of Kill Team, but also some Stargrave and Frostgrave. This year, I want to continue playing those games, but hopefully at double the frequency. I would love to be able to play two games a month across the various games I am interested in. Also, since I finished painting my Imperial Guard force last year, I want to get them on the tabletop this year. I'd like to do that in the form of some 3rd, 4th, or 5th edition Warhammer 40k. The idea of learning all new rules doesn't appeal to me right now. When I started collecting Imperial Guard in my return to the hobby in 2021, I was doing so to play with them in 9th edition. Now that 10th edition is out, I am not feeling all that excited to learn it, only to have the rules change again. I like the idea of having a set of rules that won't change - plus I bought most of my Imperial Guard miniatures used, so they are the old sculpts that came out during 3rd edition anyways. All of this, plus the nostalgia of those editions that I used to play on made me decide that I want to play one of those editions. The trouble might be finding people to play with me! I'm hoping that I can convince the buddies that I used to play with to join me.

As for the third point. My goal for now is to not buy any more models. Full stop. Over the course of the year I will likely want to purchase some new miniatures, but my goal is definitely to reduce the number of unpainted models that I have. So I will not be buying more miniatures unless I first make some significant painting progress.

Thanks for joining me on this hobby adventure!
