January

With January now over, its time for a hobby check-in. Let's see how I did in January for completing my goals!


Goal #1: Paint Models

So I started off January needing to finish my Imperial Guard. It was my 2023 goal to finish painting this army, and I almost did it, with the exception of one squad of heavy weapons. So I started my year with painting these guys. Honestly, they aren't anything special. I just wanted to finish them, and it felt good when I did. I am really happy to have my army fully painted and ready for the tabletop!

I was next going to paint the remaining two Reivers that I have, but I changed my mind, as my gaming group decided that for February, we are going to be doing a restart of our Stargrave campaign, with everyone making new crews. I had bought some awesome sci-fi models from Bombshell Miniatures last year, and this was the perfect excuse for me to get them painted and on the tabletop. I painted 5 of them in January, so I will need to paint 5 more before I can join in on the games!







So my total number of models in January comes to eight. This starts me off pretty well for my 2024 goal of painting 100 miniatures. Looking forward to February, I am hoping to finish painting my Bombshell Miniatures (7 total models) and get those Reivers done (2 models). If I can do this, it will be another 9 models done, keeping me on the right track!

Goal #2: Play Games

The game I am playing right now is Stargrave. January started out pretty hectic for me, so I wasn't able to get many games in. Near the end of the month, I did play one game of Stargrave. It was an awesome 4-player free for all in the 'Broken Fence' scenario of the Stargrave main book. This was part of the smallish campaign that a few of us had been doing. Everyone had painted models and the board looked amazing. My team was composed of models from Hydra Miniatures. 




With just the one game played, I wasn't able to quite meet my goal of playing two games this month, but a lot of that was due to factors outside of my control. Hopefully in February I can make up for it by getting three games in! With our Stargrave campaign restarting, I am hoping that I will be able to do so. Also, I have been thinking about getting back into Kill Team. If I can finish my Reivers, then I would like to start using them in some games.

Goal #3: Don't Buy New Stuff

I was able to get through January without buying any more miniatures! And with the awesome collection of unpainted miniatures that I have, it wasn't difficult. February is looking like it will be a breeze too. I don't have anything even on my radar that I want. Hopefully it stays that way, and this goal will be the easiest for me to meet!

  Quarter 3 This blog post is technically for the months of July to September, but as it turned out, I did absolutely zero hobby time in July and August. Summer is just not the time to be indoors painting and wargaming. On top of that, we did a lot of travelling this summer, making it even harder to find hobby time! So all of the painting you will see in this post was done in September. Now lets see what I did Goal #1: Paint Models I knew that the summer months would be a slower time, but I still had the goal of finishing with my Ghost Archipelago crew by the end of September. 2024 Wrap Up Post

So the year is over, and it is time to check in on the goals I had! Goal #1: Paint Miniatures Starting with my goal of painting, let's first take a look at the miniatures I painted in the final 3 months of 2024! I started with painting more of the Stranger Things models. Dustin, Mike, Lucas: Hopper, Joyce: I also painted some terrain for Don't Look Back, but this does not count towards my painting goals: I then painted a Savage to use in my Ghost Archipelago crew: I then painted some Sisters of Battle that I had sitting in my pile of shame for a while: I painted some awesome retro sci-fi Galacteers for Stargrave: I then painted up some fantasy creatures. These sculpts are super old and I have had these minis for years. I didn't spend a lot of time on them, but I still think they look ok. January + February 2025

The first two months of the year have passed, so it's time to report my progress on my hobby goals for the year! 1. Reduce Unpainted Miniatures I started the year by painting some of the random straggler models that I had bought for Stargrave and Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago. These include some awesome retro sci-fi miniatures from Hydra Miniatures and Bombshell Miniatures. It also includes the remaining 3d printed miniatures from Galaad Miniatures that I had bought for Ghost Archipelago. I also painted a couple random Stormcast miniatures I had laying around! My wife painted one as well and she did so great! I also did buy some new miniatures! I bought 23 3d printing miniatures for use in The Silver Bayonet Canada. While this represents a pretty large increase in my unpainted miniatures, I was also able to sell 23 old Reaper Bones miniatures from years ago that I have no interest in ever finishing. So overall my pile of shame did not increase from this purchase! I was able to keep...
