February

February is over! Time for a hobby check-in!

Goal #1: Paint Models

February started right where January finished, with me painting the rest of my resin Bombshell Miniatures for the rest of my Stargrave crew. I was able to finish them, and I am really happy with how they turned out! These models were really fun to paint, with each character having it's own personality. My amazing wife helped me to choose the colours, and I think the whole crew looks awesome together on the tabletop.








After this, I painted my Reivers. Not quite as much creativity went into these, as I was just following the Crimson Fist colour scheme. I still enjoyed painting them though, as they are very cool models. I am hoping to use these models in Kill Team.



In total I painted 9 miniatures in February which is keeping me at a good pace for my overall goal. Along with the miniatures I painted, I threw some paint on some Buzz Lightyear toys that I had bought for use in Stargrave. These are nothing special, but I think they look better than before. I also painted some computer terminal objective markers from Kill Team Rogue Trader to use as Stargrave Data Loot. I won't be counting terrain in my Miniatures totals, but I will still post them here so I can remember when I look back at my hobby year. 




Looking forward to next month, I have two more Astro Angels from Hydra Miniatures that I would like to paint, as well as Gryselle's Arenai from Warhammer Underworlds. The Astro Angels will be for Stargrave, while the models from Gryselle's Arenai could be used for Warcry, or Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago. 


In addition, I am hoping to be able to play through the 'Strike From The Shadows' campaign in the Stargrave Quarantine 37 expansion book in April. This is going to mean making a bunch of new terrain to fit the vibe of the campaign. I don't think I will paint up a new crew for this. I will probably just use the models I already have painted. I have plenty to choose from!


Goal #2: Play Games

In February I played a total of 3 games of Stargrave! With my same gaming group, I played the following scenarios from the main Stargrave book:

- Salvage Crew




- Skymine




- The Overgrown Factory



I played all of these with my newly finished crew. I have really enjoyed being able to use my recently painted models on the tabletop!


Goal #3: Don't Buy New Stuff

February was also completed without purchasing more miniatures. And I actually sold some books and miniatures to reduce my collection a bit. I am hoping to sell some more miniatures in March, so that I can make way for buying some alien insects for use in the Quarantine 37 campaign. My thought is that by selling miniatures before I buy more, I will be able to keep my pile of shame from growing!

  Quarter 3 This blog post is technically for the months of July to September, but as it turned out, I did absolutely zero hobby time in July and August. Summer is just not the time to be indoors painting and wargaming. On top of that, we did a lot of travelling this summer, making it even harder to find hobby time! So all of the painting you will see in this post was done in September. Now lets see what I did Goal #1: Paint Models I knew that the summer months would be a slower time, but I still had the goal of finishing with my Ghost Archipelago crew by the end of September. 2024 Wrap Up Post

So the year is over, and it is time to check in on the goals I had! Goal #1: Paint Miniatures Starting with my goal of painting, let's first take a look at the miniatures I painted in the final 3 months of 2024! I started with painting more of the Stranger Things models. Dustin, Mike, Lucas: Hopper, Joyce: I also painted some terrain for Don't Look Back, but this does not count towards my painting goals: I then painted a Savage to use in my Ghost Archipelago crew: I then painted some Sisters of Battle that I had sitting in my pile of shame for a while: I painted some awesome retro sci-fi Galacteers for Stargrave: I then painted up some fantasy creatures. These sculpts are super old and I have had these minis for years. I didn't spend a lot of time on them, but I still think they look ok. January + February 2025

The first two months of the year have passed, so it's time to report my progress on my hobby goals for the year! 1. Reduce Unpainted Miniatures I started the year by painting some of the random straggler models that I had bought for Stargrave and Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago. These include some awesome retro sci-fi miniatures from Hydra Miniatures and Bombshell Miniatures. It also includes the remaining 3d printed miniatures from Galaad Miniatures that I had bought for Ghost Archipelago. I also painted a couple random Stormcast miniatures I had laying around! My wife painted one as well and she did so great! I also did buy some new miniatures! I bought 23 3d printing miniatures for use in The Silver Bayonet Canada. While this represents a pretty large increase in my unpainted miniatures, I was also able to sell 23 old Reaper Bones miniatures from years ago that I have no interest in ever finishing. So overall my pile of shame did not increase from this purchase! I was able to keep...
