March
Goal #1: Paint Models
March was a great month for painting models! I started off by painting my last two Astro Angels from Hydra Miniatures. In the picture below, you can see the full set. I painted the Pink and Yellow in March. I lad a blast using the pastel colours and I think these models turned out great! They will fit perfectly into games of Stargrave, or any other sci-fi game system I might pick up.
Next, I painted Gryselle's Arenai. These are really cool models and they were a lot of fun to paint! I didn't get too creative with the colour scheme on these, and it was actually a nice change to just focus on the painting process, rather than the colour selection. I would like to eventually use these models to try the game Warcry.
Finally, I ended up buying some Alien Bugs from Wargames Atlantic (After selling some of my old Warhammer). I am really impressed by these miniatures! They are a bit of a hassle to build, but they are exactly what I was looking for to use as the bugs in the Stargrave - Strike from the Shadows campaign that I want to play through. I painted them in a few different colours as I have been doing with a lot of my models for Stargrave. I also decided that not every one of the bugs had to be painted to display quality and so I decided that half of them I would only paint to tabletop standard.
In total I painted 27 models in April! This is way more than I thought I would paint, and it is mainly due to the speed that I was able to paint up the bugs. For next month, I want to paint up three Daughters of Khaine heroes that I have (also for Warcry) and the rest of the Bugs (10 more).
Goal #2: Play Games
In February I played another 3 games of Stargrave! It has been really great to be able to play so many games of Stargrave, considering I didn't know anyone who played it when I first moved to Saskatoon. I have really enjoyed seeing my models that I spent many hours painting play through many different stories and progress as a crew.
My gaming group has been thinking that its time to move away from Stargrave for a little while just due to the fact that we have played so much of it. The next game that is on the group's radar is Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago, and I am excited to play that and spend some time in a fantasy rather than a sci-fi setting!
Goal #3: Don't Buy New Stuff
In March I did end up buying some miniatures, but I was also able to sell miniatures to make room! As mentioned previously, I did buy the Alien Bugs. I also sold some old space marines, some old Warhammer books, and some old Warhammer terrain. Overall, my pile of shame hasn't gotten any bigger and I actually spent less money than what I sold, so I am counting it as a success! In addition to the bugs, I ended up buying a Stranger Things board game which includes miniatures. My wife thinks this counts as a miniatures purchase and I think it doesn't because it is a board game! She is probably right hahaha. Either way, I am excited to paint up the Stranger Things figures with her! And potentially use them in a new game I want to try called, "Don't Look Back".
